Hello world!

Starting next year. I will tell the world about my poker exploits. Right now I’ve been running an experiment over on Poker Stars.

I already blew my initial buy in and quit for some time. Then I visited the site just see if I could use all my frequent flyer points for something useful. I happened to stumble upon their 2 billion hand freerolls and played those and won a few cents. I also played in those 10 FFP freerolls and won a few cents at a time. Slowly I built up my bankroll to 2 bucks or so. Then I started playing those .25 cent MTTs. Won some money there. Then I played the .50 cent MTTs and won some over there. Mostly played tight, finished in the money most of the time and before I knew I had about $10. Then I played a few $1.10 MTTs. Biggest cash was 18th place good for 9 bucks. These tourneys are a grind at the micros. I never made it to the final tables in any of them and my biggest finish was 18th. However it helped build my bankroll more than the freerolls. Once I thought I had enough to play the cash micro limits (about $6), I started to play the .02/.05 Omaha Hi/Lo games (buy in for $3 bucks) and built my bankroll a few dollars at a time. Now i’m at about $50 bucks. Took my close to 3 months but it’s been a weird strange trip. I played mostly tight and solid ABC boring poker. Didn’t make too many moves and didn’t gamble a whole lot. Just sort of got my money when I had the statisitcal advantage and won enough to counter variance and streaks of bad luck. It’s really interesting to play this way and it works especially against the real loose players at these levels. There you have it. My personal experiment is too try and build my bankroll up to $1,000 then see what happens. This blog will just kind of document my adventures in gambling and poker. I will also post on some of my home games and my trips to Atlantic City but online I’m hoping to build my bankroll up to $1,000. hey if Jesus Ferguson can do it why not me? Hope you enjoy this!

Remember I’m starting with zero and let’s see what happens….

Nice – I see now that you did reference Jesus Ferguson (I’d only looked at the title and your most recent posts). Once again – I think this is a great idea and a good crash-course in bankroll management if nothing else. I’ve subscribed to your RSS Feed, so keep writing and I’ll keep reading!
