Took a little hiatus from poker. Both online and live. I don’t know why but I suspect it’s because I’m a little burned out. Trying to build BR to the point where I’m playing $50 NL comfortably is a long struggle. I’m in it for the long haul and I’m inching my way up. Slowly but surely I’m making headway.
There’s a saying that I think about in order to keep on track. Ounces makes pounds.
In poker, quarters make dollars and dollars make a gigantic bankroll. It just takes time.
So after 3 weeks of laying low, I’m back in the thick of things and hoping that ounces makes pounds.

Glad to hear your back, hope your running hotter then the devils under pants lol.
I totally agreed, getting to the point where I can comfortably grind 50nl is my immediate short term goal, I’m not too far off bankroll wise, but skill, attitude, discipline and everything else are lacking way too much for me at the moment to feel happy about moving up to 50nl.
Best of luck for an amazing July xxx

good that you’re coming back to cash. what, specifically, are you doing to improve other than playing? i’m assuming you use HEM?, am i right?

The ways I’m improving is that I’m limiting myself to 4 tables max. Unfortunately, I haven’t been using any HEM or PT. I’m still not sure of its value, other than understanding the other player’s tendencies. I did use PT for a bit but I found myself too fixated on hitting the right percentages (i.e. Steal rate, VPIP, 3 bet and 4 bet ranges etc.). I’m still on the fence in terms of buying the updated version of PT or getting HEM. If you can explain the virtues of having a holdem program to help my game, I’d appreciate it.

I’ve been using PT3 and I love it, I’m a huge noob when it comes to it, but I think for $100 or w/e it is, its easily worth it just for record keeping purposes alone.
I’ve never used the hud yet, only turned it on yesterday, so I’m not familar with that, but if your multi-tabling like 8 plus, I am now converted to its charms.
I know lots of people prefer HEM, so I would give them both a through trial and see which you prefer. I’ve never been really stats orientated, but a lot of other players are, so when you seek help about your game, then can help you so much easier if you have stats / records to talk about. Its not that you should play to stats, but the stats are an indication of what you could be doing wrong or right.

The above is for full ring, but they might be a similar thread in the 6 max forum too.

i’ve used PT2, PT3, and HEM. I didn’t like PT3 because it was buggy when it came out, even though I much preferred the graphical interface (basically it looked prettier). Made the switch to HEM after some friends hounded me about it and definitely don’t regret it. The filtering in HEM is damn good and it’s an incredibly fast program.
In terms of whether or not to have one — well, if you’re serious about moving up ever, it’s really a necessity. A good way to get it is to sign up for rakeback at cardrunners or another training site (i prefer deucescracked) and to do that. again, you should really have this stuff — it will help you to analyze your game. i’ve always played with a HUD and really love it, but i lost my db a while back due to a reformat and had to play without it — there’s definitely value to doing so (helps you really focus on game dymanics and such), but the HUD is only a minor selling point for me — it’s really what you can do after the fact.
this could sound mean, but i’ll be honest. if you want to get better (some people only say they want to, and really do not, which is totally fine) only playing 4 tables is not good enough. definitely good that you’re not playing more than that, though.
definitely sign up for a vid training site, watch the vids, take notes, and use the forums. if you haven’t read Professional No Limit Hold’em, it’s a good one. it’s also good to have a group of guys that are trying to improve as well for motivational purposes as well (that’s what i do at the moment).
looking forward to seeing how things go for ya! cheers

I’m always looking to work on my game, if you want to chat you can e-mail me, or IM me on skype as LuckyStraights… I’m on aim, but locked my account and can’t get back in atm.
I would recommend Poker Savvy Plus and Deuces Cracked, I have a review of both on my site.
